THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
I have seen it too many times to count in movie theaters .. from the 8th Street Playhouse .. to the Uniondale Mini Cinema. I miss those crazy nights dressing up and singing my heart out.
I was the main course .. playing Eddie mostly .. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 musical comedy film that parodies science fiction and horror films. Still in limited release 30 years after its premiere, it has the longest running theatrical release in film history. It gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating with the film in theaters across the country."Rocky Horror" is the first movie from a major film studio, such as 20th Century Fox, to be in the midnight movie market. Widely known by mainstream audiences, it has a large international following and is one of the best known and most financially successful midnight movies of all time. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The film, considered a cult classic, is an adaption of the British musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show. Richard O'Brien, author of the stage show, was assisted by Jim Sharman in writing the screenplay. The movie introduces Tim Curry and features Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick along with cast members from the original Kings Road production of the play. It's Friday Night Frenzy all over again .. When HBO was first available here on Long Island .. they had cult films on at Midnight on Friday's !! So .. this movie has very cool memories for me of watching it at home as well .. with my Mom .. and best friends. Yes .. I had the poster on my door in my room too !! I have the set of Head Knockers from NECA !! Movie stills that are Autographed by the stars !! So .. you know what I will be watching at Midnight TONIGHT !!
Just a little reminder this is the day to watch some Peanuts .. or you may just get a rock in your Halloween bag when out Trick-Or-Treating. You can actually watch it all right HERE !!
My favorite holiday is today !! I love Halloween !! So does FunKo .. from all the different Halloween themed merchandise they have done through the years.
I know .. I know .. I just blogged about the new Star Wars page on my JAFO website .. but who would know we would get a sneak peek of some sketches of Concept Art !! Slave Leia is the bomb .. !! Yes .. that's Christy .. she always does the masquerade party at San Diego Comic Con . I try to find her every year, she's a sweetie!! These are not just just concepts though .. they are being made.
I don't know when .. since we still have the Emperor and a special Han Solo that have to come out first. Not to mention the Holiday Yoda, Darth Vader, and Jawa. Still nice to get a preview ...
It was my cry 30 years ago .. and thanks to FunKo I can scream it out now again. Make Mine Marvel was the cheer of Marvel Comics collectors when I was young, the M.M.M.S. was the place to be ..
Marvel Comics first began promoting its first fan club in the mid 60s.
Stan Lee, co-creator of many of Marvel's stable of superheroes, started the M.M.M.S. in late 1964 as a way to further separate Marvel from the Distinguished Competition. Where DC Comics were considered the "IBM" of comic companies, with its long history of tradition and business-like demeanor, Marvel was becoming the "Apple" of many an eye. Sporting a casual atmosphere and less-than-formal dress, Stan wanted to relate to his audience that Marvel wasn't some unfeeling mechanism of enterprise but a comrade, a member of a team in which you, the reader, could become part of. For months, Stan and his Bullpen promoted the M.M.M.S. through its lineup of titles without revealing what the letters stood for. Fans from across the globe wrote in, attempting to be first in cracking the code. Finally, the "Merry Marvel Marching Society" was made public and its membership quickly escalated. For a one dollar contribution, each member would receive an official membership kit that included: a letter welcoming you to the organization, a giant-size membership button (featuring Spider-man, the Human Torch and the Thing) with the declaration "I Belong: The Merry Marvel Marching Society," a collection of stickers, a membership card proclaiming you’re a charter member in good standing and (on the rear) a pledge of allegiance to Marvel. You also received a 33 1/3 rpm record with the voices of the Bullpen gang clowning around and welcoming you to the M.M.M.S..
What does that have to do with FunKo you ask ?? Well .. FunKo with it's retro style is bringing back the old Marvel look.
I will definitely be getting all the merchandise that FunKo puts out. I may not get as crazy as some of my Funatic friends .. Above are all the Prototype's that Al (wackyhead) has collected so far. Lots of trading and money spent getting all those !!
Personally .. I can't wait until I can get this Bobble Bank !!
