Iconic coffee-to-go cup survives evolution of New York coffee culture
The New York First Company steps in to save the original Greek diner paper cup
The iconic New York Coffee Cup is no longer an endangered species.
Since 1963, a quirky blue paper cup has been synonymous with coffee-to-go in New York. At one time, as many as 15 million of the cups emblazoned with "We Are Happy To Serve You" were used every month in the city. But as diner coffee gave way to upscale coffee bars, declining demand caused the manufacturer to discontinue the iconic cup. Not to worry. The New York First Company, a specialty retailer, announces it has contracted with the Solo Cup Corporation to resume production. The cups (with lids) are now available for purchase in lots of 100 ($36) at http://www.newyorkfirst.com.
In the early 1960s, most of the city's diners and delis were Greek-owned. That's when the design featuring ancient Greek urns, Homeric lettering, and steaming coffee, framed in an ornamental meander motif, was introduced. For over 4 decades, the distinctive coffee-to-go cup was a familiar sight on the streets of New York and is so connected to the city's culture that it continues to be a standard prop in films and TV shows set in the city.
"The distinctive coffee cup is one of the things that makes New York, New York," says Jeffrey Turback, spokesman for The New York First Company. "Its image once graced the cover of the Manhattan phone book. We're delighted it is no longer an endangered species."

Movie NEWS - Die Hard 5 : A Good Day to Die Hard
Jai Courtney has been cast as Jack McClane, the son of John McClane, in A Good Day to Die Hard. Following a global casting search spanning several months, 20th Century Fox announced Wednesday that Courtney would be joining the forthcoming fifth installment in the long-running franchise. The previous film in the series, Live Free or Die Hard, was released in 2007, and paired Willis with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who played his estranged daughter. Winstead told Movies.com last year that she was not asked to return to the franchise.A Good Day To Die Hard, the fifth installment and fourth sequel in the legendaryDie Hard franchise, may currently be in production, but that doesn't mean that the movie isn't done recruiting cast members. Variety has learned that both Amaury Nolasco and Megalyn Echikunwoke have signed on to play roles in the upcoming action film with Bruce Willis. Both actors are best known for their work on TV, with Nolasco starring in series like Prison Break and Work It while Echikunwoke starred on both CSI: Miami and House of Lies. While the actress' role is being currently kept under wraps, Nolasco will apparently only have a small role in the movie, playing John McClane's (Willis) friend at the start of the picture. Based on a script by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and directed by John Moore (Max Payne, Flight of the Phoenix), A Good Day To Die Hard sees our seemingly-invincible hero travel to Russia in order to get his son out of prison. While there, however, McClane uncovers a terrorist plot and, along with his son, he works to stop it before it's too late. Jai Courtney will be playing Jack McClane while Cole Hauser, Sebastian Koch and Yulia Snigir are all on-board to play antagonistic roles. As mentioned, the movie is currently in production and will serve as the first time that John McClane has entered international territory (presumably to bump up box office numbers outside the United States).
