 Adam West's Batman Gets a Home DVD Release

The popular 60s-era Batman television show starring Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo is finally getting a home video release.
The news came via an unusual, but appropriate, source. Longtime comic book fan and TV personality Conan O’Brien.

The date of release is as yet unknown, but with Batman more popular than ever, the Batman ’66 comic book in stores and Batman celebrating his 75th year as a pop culture icon this year, the timing couldn’t be better.

Born William West Anderson in Seattle and raised in Walla Walla, West is truly a hometown boy made good. Emerald City Comicon 2013 marks the first time West has made a public appearance in Washington State in nearly 20 years and his first Northwest convention appearance in over 3 decades.

Bat-NEWS : Original Batmobile from TV series auctioned for $4.62M

LOS ANGELES –  "Holy windfall, Batman!" The Batmobile just sold for $4.62 million.

The original 19-foot-long black, bubble-topped car used in the 1960s "Batman" TV show sold at auction Saturday.

The Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. in Scottsdale, Ariz., revealed the selling price but says the winning bidder has not been disclosed.

The car's owner -- auto customizer George Barris, of Los Angeles -- transformed a one-of-a-kind 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car into the sleek crime-fighting machine. It boasted lasers and a "Batphone" and could lay down smoke screens and oil slicks.

The iconic car was used by Adam West who starred as the Caped Crusader and by Burt Ward, his sidekick Robin known for exclamations beginning with --"Holy."

Barris' publicist says his client is pleased with the auction result.

Bat NEWS - The original TV Batmobile hits the auction block !!

Famed auto customizer George Barris is putting the Batmobile -- which he customized from a 1955 Ford -- up for sale.

With atomic batteries to power and turbines to speed, the original Batmobile is ready to rev up the auction block.

The 1955 Lincoln Futura that California custom-car designer George Barris pimped out into Batman and Robin’s ride on the 1960s hit TV show is set to be sold on Jan. 19.

“It’s a big part of my life,” Barris, 87, told the Daily News Thursday. “But I thought about it and decided it should be shared with people around the world, not sitting in my showroom in North Hollywood.”

Barris, who has owned the 19-foot-long, bubble-topped two-seater for 46 years, revealed that he bought it from the Ford Motor Company for $1 and spent $15,000 to turn it into piece of TV history.

The Arizona auctionhouse Barrett-Jackson is expecting a pow! bam! bidding war and believes the car will fetch “multiple millions” by the time gavel comes down.

“It is definitely the No. 1 most famous car I’ve designed,” said Barris, whose other notable cars include the casket-dragster from “The Munsters” and KITT from the “Knight Rider” series.

The Batmobile features its original souped-up V-8 engine, hydro-automatic transmission and an array of gadgets, including a Bat Ray projector, Bat Eye switch and two rear-mounted parachutes.

It does not really have atomic batteries, by the way.

11/16/12- George Barris has owned the original Lincoln Futura/#1 1966 TV Batmobile for over 50 years.  This particular car was featured in all of the episodes of Batman that ran from 1966-1968.  The Barris' have now decided to sell their most famous & prized possession to the highest bidder. This Batmobile is is the most recognized and popular piece of entertainment history, worldwide. This is the first time that the original Batmobile has been up for sale. The sale includes memorabilia and documentation from George's personal archive. Lot #5037 will hit the auction block in mid-January of 2013 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in AZ with a reserve.

Warner Bros. sets licensing for 1960's Batman TV Show

Rights issues resolved on Fox's campy 1960s series


As a blitz of merchandise hits store shelves for "The Dark Knight Rises," Warner Bros. is turning to a campier source for a new Caped Crusader product: the 1960s "Batman" TV series.
For the first time in 40 years, Warner Bros. Consumer Products will be able to use the likeness of the show's stars, including Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero and Burgess Meredith, on everything from apparel to toys, home goods, publishing and promotions.


WBCP will introduce the new "Batman" product opportunities to potential partners and retailers at next week's Licensing Expo, running June 12-14 in Las Vegas. First products will launch in the spring.


Retailers had requested a larger merchandise line tied to the show over the years, but studio arm had previously been able to use only the series' logo, POW!-packed animated opening sequence and the Batmobile for product, not the actors, due to rights issues as the series was produced by 20th Century Fox. As a result, studio was limited to a small line of T-shirts and a die-cast Batmobile made by Mattel.


Studio began negotiating with Fox, West and the estates of the show's other thesps for the rights to their likenesses in August 2009. Batman is a DC Comics character.


Division is eager to exploit the "Batman" series, which aired on ABC from 1966-68, especially its colorful characters, gadgets like the Bat phone and Bat boat, and kitschy humor, an easier sell for retailers than the darker, more serious and gritty tone of Christopher Nolan's film trilogy.


Company is talking to department stores about carrying exclusive lines of "Batman" show merchandise, the way Bloomingdale's turned to its household brands like Marc Jacobs and Psycho Bunny to tap into the 75th anniversary of DC Comics.


"For the first time in over 40 years we will be able to offer fans a full merchandise program that captures the classic, kitschy look and feel of the original 'Batman' TV show," said Brad Globe, president of Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "This new licensing program allows our partners to take advantage of the characters, gadgets and humor that made the show a smash hit in its day and a perennial favorite decades later."


Warner Bros. also will promote "Man of Steel," the next two "Hobbit" films, "The Looney Tunes Show," "The Wizard of Oz," "Scooby-Doo" and "ThunderCats" TV shows at the Licensing Expo.

Hollywood Walk of Fame - ADAM WEST Honored TODAY !!

Adam West, who played Batman on the beloved 1960s TV series, received the 2,468th star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Guinness World Records Museum.



West, who also lends his voice to Quahog's Mayor on "Family Guy," was joined at the event by guest speakers Seth McFarlane, who produces the animated TV series, and fellow voice actor Ralph Garman. The Batmobile even made an appearance at the event.





"We are thrilled to honor Adam with this prestigious award. Fans have been waiting for this special day for many years," Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President Leron Gubler, who hosted the event, said in a statement. "Adam West fired up the billion-dollar Batman franchise: the golden years and the classic Batman, the Bright Knight. He deserves his place of honor on our famed Walk of Fame."

The 83-year-old West's career has spanned more than 50 years.
